Cologne Sanskrit Lexicon
Welcome to the alpha preview of the Cologne Sanskrit Lexicon.
Search 339 730 entries in the largest online Sanskrit lexicon.
This website offers a global search through the major Sanskrit dictionaries, leading to hits in first level lemmas, listing related entries and offering the possibility to open the search outwards the definitions.
Dictionaries included are:
- Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Dictionary (Oxford 1899, 1333 pages)
- Böhtlingk-Roth Sanskrit-German Dictionary (St. Petersburg 1855-1875, 4737 pages)
- Apte's English-Sanskrit Dictionary (Pune 3rd edition 1920, 501 pages).
This project aims to include more of the Sanskrit dictionaries, provided by the website Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionaries.
Our new new presentation of three dictionaries, on basis of TEI-encoded XML files, is based on the excellent pioneer work of Thomas Malten (University of Cologne), Peter Scharf (Brown University) , Malcom D. Hymann (Max-Planck-Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte) and Jim Funderburk.
